Donald Trump’s Latest Nickname for Democrats Draws Criticism Online

President Donald Trump used a maternal health event at the Oval Office to criticize Democrats, debuting a new nickname for the party during remarks that drew pushback online. Trump's comments came as his administration pushes for legislative changes in a deeply divided Congress.

At the Oval Office, Trump hosted a maternal health event. After introducing a new fertility benefit package for federal staff, Trump announced the launch of Moms.gov, a website for expectant and new mothers. Trump then turned his remarks toward Democrats, calling them "Dumbocrats."

He said, "I was hunted by some very bad people. Now I'm the hunter." He added, "It's much better when you're the hunter, but these are bad people, and they'll give you no support at all, no matter how good it is. That's why we call them the Dumbocrats. We have their name, the Dumbocrats, because they're dumb. They're dumb people."

The battle between Trump and the Democrats isn't new. Last November, he criticized Democratic lawmakers who raised concerns about his military decisions.

After Sens. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan and Mark Kelly of Arizona, along with Reps. Chris Deluzio and Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania, Maggie Goodlander of New Hampshire, and Jason Crow of Colorado issued a joint statement warning that public trust in the military was at risk, Trump responded sharply, according to Al Jazeera.

He posted on Truth Social, criticizing them for what he called "seditious comments." He wrote, "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL. Their words cannot be allowed to stand – We won't have a Country anymore!!! An example MUST BE SET."

A clip of the Fox News broadcast was shared on X, and many users pushed back on the remarks. One user wrote, "Trump needs new material with better tone. Way to unite the country — insult those who crossed party lines to vote for you." Another wrote, "He is actually the dumb one, who has turned the USA into a global laughingstock."

Another user said sarcastically, "Very, very clever mister president. We all have tears in our eyes," while another wrote, "That's our President — who spends all day thinking up derogatory names for people who have different political agendas from him."

Trump also criticized Democrats for opposing his agenda regardless of what his administration proposes. He claimed Democrats would continue to oppose his efforts even if his administration reduced the cost of certain medications, and predicted the opposition would keep losing because of their policies.
