Donald Trump Reveals Melania’s Verdict on His ‘YMCA’ Dance - Then Performs It Anyway
Donald Trump is unlikely to stop his signature dance anytime soon, even though it drives his wife, Melania Trump, crazy. According to RadarOnline, The president said that the first lady is not fond of his go-to "YMCA" routine; however, he still broke into the moves during a recent rally.
Reports from Variety state that the President has told supporters that his wife made her feelings about his dance crystal clear - "[She] hates when I dance to what's sometimes referred to as 'the gay national anthem,' you know that," he said, referring to the Village People's 1978 hit "YMCA." "We love that song!" He also recalled her reaction and said, "She goes, 'Darling, please' — you know, she's a very elegant woman — she goes, 'Darling, please don't dance. It's not presidential.'"
President Trump says First Lady Melania Trump dislikes his dancing
Melania Trump previously addressed the dance, admitting she doesn't always think it aligns with the moment. "I like it at certain times. Some days it's not appropriate, and I told him so. But it's his dance, and I think people love it," she said in a January interview. She further disclosed that she joined in during his inauguration but also said, "It's different than his."
However, Donald Trump said otherwise. Despite Melania’s protests, he still made it happen again. As he wrapped up his speech, he broke into his signature arm motions along with a golf swing thrown in for effect. The dance has become a go-to move at his events, and this is often seen, when he closes the rallies.
Trump, during his 2024 presidential run, consistently used the "YMCA" song during his walk-off, and reports say that he used it at more than 100 rallies. And this choreography has eventually become a viral part of his political persona. Not to mention that the song itself has been linked with LGBTQ+ culture, with lyrics like, "Many ways to have a good time... It's fun to stay at the YMCA."

Trump’s use of the track has also given rise to controversies with the Village People. Back in 2023, the group's manager sent a cease-and-desist letter and demanded that the President stop playing their music at public events. However, surprisingly, by 2025, members of the group itself performed "YMCA" at Trump's inauguration celebrations and also noted, “We know this won't make some of you happy to hear, however, we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics."
They added, "Our song Y.M.C.A. is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together... Therefore, we believe it's now time to bring the country together with music."
