Donald Trump turns his back on his PR stunt with Doordash Grandma
Donald Trump Calls His Own McDonald’s DoorDash Stunt ‘Tacky’ as ‘Grandma’ PR Campaign Backfires
In a bizarre turn of events, after promoting the No Tax on Tips policy with a DoorDash employee, Sharon Simmons who is a grandmother of 10 and is known as “Doordash Grandma”, Donald Trump has now confessed that he found the entire “PR stunt” to be tacky and embarrassing.
On April 13, 2026, Trump was seen receiving a large order of McDonald’s from Simmons at the White House. The 58-year-old from Fayetteville, Arkansas was seen hand-delivering the order to the president after which he took the opportunity to promote the No Tax on Tips policy which is an act passed by the Senate on May 2025 to eradicate federal income taxes on tip income.
However, the entire stunt heavily backfired when the internet found the PR campaign to be extremely gimmicky. Not only this but some eagle-eyed social media users found Sharon Simmons to be present in other MAGA-headlined events which led to the rumor that she might be a paid actor or a Republican stooge.
Donald Trump Found His Stunt With Doordash Grandma to Be Tacky
Donald Trump called his PR stunt with Doordash Grandma Sharon Simmons to be tacky.
Now, it seems that the president has also reflected back in his appearance in the video to promote the policy and found it rather disappointing. In an event in Las Vegas on Thursday, April 16, 2026 to promote the Republican tax agenda, Donald Trump shockingly confessed that the video featuring him and the Doordash grandma was “tacky and embarrassing.”
Trump admitted that although he found Sharon to be beautiful and wonderful, he did not like the stunt. He said in the event, “Sharon delivered McDonald’s to the Oval Office. It was a little bit of a… you know, I mean, to be honest, it was a little tacky.”
Giving a callback to his garbage truck stunt in 2024, the President added, “You know, they come up with these crazy ideas like McDonald’s, although that was the biggest ever on Google, they say, number one ever. And the, the, uh, garbage truck. I mean, we do these things in politics. They’re a little embarrassing.”
A Callback to Donald Trump’s “Garbage Truck” Stint
Donald Trump's stunt with Sharon Simmons drew a strong criticism.
The reference was to a PR stunt by Trump in 2024 when he climbed a Make America Great Again-themed garbage truck during his campaign in Wisconsin to bring attention to former President Joe Biden’s dig at the supporters of Trump whom he had allegedly called “garbage.”
The statement had sparked a massive outrage among MAGA loyalists. However, Biden later clarified that he was responding to a comedian who called Puerto Rico an “island of garbage.”
However, this is not the first time that Donald Trump featured in a promotional campaign of McDonald’s which is said to be his favorite food joint. In the days leading upto the election in 2024, the President had donned an apron and started serving fries at a McDonald’s outlet in Pennsylvania.
Coming back to his changed stance to his stunt with Sharon Simmons, he said, “They’re a little tiny [bit] embarrassing, but we do them, and you win by landslides, you know. So we gotta keep to them. It was a very beautiful woman standing there with two big bags of McDonald’s hamburgers. And I say, ‘Is this really believable?’ But the point of it was she made $11,000 that she had no idea was coming, and it was really great. It turned out to be really great.”
Not only this but Sharon’s narrative also embarrasingly changed in one of her recent interviews. She said earlier that the $11,000 she saved in taxes would help her fund her husband’s cancer treatment.
However, she seemed to change her story in a Monday, April 13, 2026, interaction with Fox News Digital where she claimed that she would save only around $3,000 to $4,000
