'Cuts to the Core': Mandy Moore Slams Ashley Tisdale’s 'Toxic Mom Group' Essay as Decidedly 'Upsetting'
Mandy Moore is finally talking about the "toxic" mom group drama ignited by fellow actress Ashley Tisdale.
While speaking to Andy Cohen for SiriusXM's Andy Cohen Live, the 44-year-old talked about the group and Tisdale's essay.
The This Is Us actress shared her and the group's thoughts on Tisdale's article titled "Breaking Up with My Toxic Mom Group," which she wrote for The Cut.
Moore, who is a mother of three, revealed that she found the entire situation regarding the essay "quite upsetting."
What is The Controversy About?
In the essay, which the Disney alum released in January, Tisdale alleged that the celebrity mom group she was a part of created a toxic atmosphere and made her feel "excluded," according to the Daily Mail.
While she did not mention the members of the group, fans were quick to speculate that Moore, Hilary Duff and Meghan Trainor were part of the group.
Mandy Moore addressed Ashley Tisdale's "toxic mom group" essay.
Reacting to the essay, Moore told Cohen, "It's wild to have anybody talk about your life, and I know Hilary [Duff] has sort of mentioned this too. It's like we both have grown up in this business and had people dissect who we are and the choices we make and all of that, but this was something altogether different and decidedly way more upsetting. It just cuts to the core."
She further added, "The most important thing in my life is being a kind person and like that legacy of kindness, and anyone even insinuating that that might not be the case, and with the company that I choose to keep is very upsetting. I'd say that was the biggest takeaway, sort of the shock of like, 'Wow.'"
Moore stressed that she wouldn't have handled the situation the same way, adding, "I'm someone who is really scared by confrontation but also when it's important, I am a huge proponent [of] having a conversation if my feelings are hurt or there's something I need to get off my chest. It's not always like the most comfortable of situations, but I think that's where I sort of differed in feeling like I wouldn't have handled the situation this way."
Ashley Tisdale's Essay That Stirred Controversy
Tisdale stirred up controversy earlier this year when she wrote in a now-removed post on Substack that she felt "frozen out" of the close-knit "clique" of other celebrity mothers.

She wrote on Substack, "Friendships, like all relationships, have seasons. Maybe a group truly was a good fit at one point, but if it's not the right fit for you now, it's okay to move on." Later, the essay was published on The Cut.
Hilary Duff Reacts to Ashley Tisdale's Essay
During her appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast in January, host Alex Cooper questioned Duff about the infamous essay.
The singer noted, “I felt really sad. I honestly felt really sad. I was pretty, pretty taken aback and felt just, like, sad.”
“So I think I just was like, ‘Woah', it sucks to read something that's, like, not true. And it sucks on behalf of six women in all of their lives," the Come Clean singer added.
