Gavin Newsom faces flak over 'Jim Crow 2.0' claims.
'Your Post Is Garbage': Netizens Slam Gavin Newsom Over Louisiana 'Stone Cold Racism' Remark
California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized the efforts of several Republican-led states to redraw congressional maps in ways that could reduce or even eliminate Black representation.
He condemned it by calling it sheer “racism,” which he said will further weaken the voting power of Black people in those areas.
Newsom’s remarks come after the Supreme Court’s decision in the Louisiana v. Callais case.
Now, netizens have joined the debate over how district boundaries should be drawn and who stands to benefit from it politically.
'It’s Jaw-Dropping What Is Happening'
Gavin Newsom criticizes Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry in a post on X.
Speaking at a recent news conference following the Supreme Court’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, Newsom strongly criticized Republican-led states over new redistricting efforts. He said, “This is Jim Crow 2.0. It’s sick.”
“Stone cold racism at a scale I never thought I would see in my life — Never have seen in my lifetime. It’s all bringing us back to pre-1960s world. It’s jaw-dropping what is happening,” he stated.
Newsom specifically targeted Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry after the state suspended House primary elections days before voting.
Around 45,000 early voting ballots were made invalid following the move.
When pressed about this on a 60 Minutes interview, Landry said, “It’s not a big deal. It's not my fault.”
Following his remarks, Newsom slammed Landry while accusing him of canceling the election to “eliminate black representation.”
“Louisiana Governor Landry suspended a primary election — where tens of thousands of people had already voted — to redistrict and eliminate Black representation,” Newsom said.
“Our country is supposed to be about the expansion of liberty and freedom. We're seeing the exact opposite,” he added.
Social Media Users React to Gavin Newsom’s Remarks
An X user slams Gavin Newsom.
After criticizing Republican-led redistricting efforts and branding it “racism,” in an X post, Newsom faced backlash online.
Many users pushed back against his claims and defended the Supreme Court’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais.
One user wrote, “What you have done to the great state of California is completely destroy it, and you can actually stand there with a straight face and talk about another Gov in another state.”
Another commented, “Black voters are not being denied their right to vote, so your post is garbage. You’re just upset SCOTUS eliminated the unjust racist voting districts, which never should have been created.”
Some users even accused Democrats of overusing the context of “racism” in political debates.
“OMG!! Racism is the only card the democrats use because they can’t see past their lies,” one person added.
Another argued that the ruling was constitutional, adding, “You’re completely misrepresenting what happened. The Supreme Court ruled that redistricting based primarily on race is unconstitutional. All of the Democrat districts made that way are unconstitutional. Louisiana is abiding by the Constitution.”
