A white woman entrepreneur named Sharon O’Dea faced a massive backlash after she shared a picture of a fellow hotel guest in Panama City poolside. O’Dea posted a rant on Threads that the fellow guest, who happened to be a black woman, was giving her a hostile energy.

According to Atlanta Black Star, the white woman received a lot of backlash for the post, which led her not only to take the post down but also to go private across Threads, Instagram, and X.

Sharon, who is a consultant, targeted the Black woman in a seven-part series on threads. The fellow guest was seen in a swimsuit and was seen taking selfies on the steps of a rooftop infinity pool.

Racism is still blatantly prevalent in the U.S.

Even though Sharon deleted the post after some severe backlash, enraged Threads users circulated the screenshot of her controversial post against the black woman. The first part of her post against the fellow guest read, “Being given death stares at a rooftop pool because I swam in it. I understand her frustration. I have disrupted the surface. I have introduced ripples into what was, until my arrival, a flawless simulation of leisure. I am, in the most literal sense possible, making waves. She is furious. I am delighted.”

On her quest to take a dig at the influencer culture, Sharon, who also happens to be an owner of a consultancy agency Lithos Partners, dragged the black woman on social media and alleged she was unhappy when, instead, the woman seemed to be just trying to enjoy herself and might have been also oblivious to O’Dea’s presence.

Sharon O’Dea added, “She hasn’t got into the water once. She has, however, taken forty minutes to construct photographic evidence that she is the kind of person who is near water.”

Alleging that the black woman was having a “hollowed-out experience” and needed the validation of a “like” on her social media, O’Dea, in contrast, pointed out her experience and said, “Actually having a good time, which I accept is now a radical act. When performing your life has become the default, just living the f------- thing is almost punk. I’ll take it.”

This left many Threads users enraged as they felt that the Amsterdam-based consultant was not only stalking the black woman but was also unnecessarily targeting her as a negative person and being an alleged racist.

A commentator, namely Jaki Dee, revealed to the publication, “As an introverted Black woman, people always interpret it as anger or aggression when I’m just to myself. That lady in the picture wasn’t bothering anyone, yet Sharon made her out to be a horribly shallow person, as if she didn’t deserve to be there or enjoy herself on her own terms.”

Racism against the black farmers since 1910

Another Threads user reacted to the April 5 post, stating, “You saw a Black woman quietly enjoying her time alone. You decide that because she’s not swimming, she must be FUMING with anger that you are. You create an entire narrative in your head and slam a woman’s character on social media because she’s not diving in the water.”

Calling Sharon O’Dea an insecure woman, a Threads user added, “I hope the Black woman who was taking photos & minding her business at a pool—while being judged by an insecure woman (yes, she is) who took her photo and used it as content without her consent—sees the post and responds.”

Many Threads users also wish for the black woman to react to her privacy and vacation being violated by a now-gone social media private, Sharon O’Dea.
