Susan Lorincz is an older woman who has been having feuds with her neighbors since early 2022. While she tried to involve the cops, she was trying to stop the noise complaints and alleged trespassing charges.
Ajike “AJ” Owens went over to the elderly woman’s home to talk about the situation, but it dramatically escalated. Lorincz grabbed a gun and fatally shot her. She was ultimately convicted of manslaughter after her trial in 2024.
AJ Owens’ Fatal Encounter With Susan Lorincz
Susan Lorincz fatally shot AJ Owens.
According to The New York Times, AJ Owens, a Black Woman, in Florida, confronted her neighbor, Susan Lorincz, after allegedly throwing an object at her children. Though she went to her residence to resolve the issue, the older woman grabbed her firearm and fatally shot her through the door of her residence.
The local sheriff said the case was made all the more complicated because of the state’s “stand your ground” law. The authorities had responded to a trespassing call, but by the time they arrived, Owens was already “suffering from a gunshot wound.” While she was rushed to the hospital, she was eventually pronounced dead.
The sheriff stated that the confrontation was the result of a “neighborhood feud over time” and “there was a lot of aggressiveness” at the door. They shared instances of the beef, like banging on the doors and walls, and threats being made. In a separate report obtained by PEOPLE magazine, Lorincz confessed in her interviews with the cops that she had used the n-word out of anger at the children in the term and even used other derogatory terms.
During the investigation, the authorities determined that Susan Lorincz’s actions were not justifiable under Florida law. In June 2023, she was charged with manslaughter with a “firearm, culpable negligence, battery and two counts of assault.” However, she was exempted from second-degree murder, a first-degree felony.
William Gladson, the State Attorney, said there was “insufficient evidence” to prove the elements necessary for a murder charge. In 2024, Lorincz’s trial commenced, and after two hours of deliberation, the jury found her guilty of manslaughter and sentenced her to 30 years in prison.
Where is Susan Lorincz?
Currently, Susan Lorincz is serving her 25-year sentence at the Homestead Correctional Institution in South Florida, as per her records. She is expected to leave the prison on February 18, 2048, as per the Florida Department of Corrections.
During an interview with WCJB (via PEOPLE magazine), she allegedly said that both AJ Owens and her children had threatened to kill her on the day of the shooting. She said, “I was terrified. I just never, ever thought in a million years this would happen, and it just, it breaks my heart. I can’t take it back. I can’t replace her.”
