'Trump Disappointment Syndrome': Thomas Massie Blasts Maga Circle Days After Primary Election Defeat
Outgoing Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie used a high-profile national television appearance to deliver a defiant message to the White House, vowing to spend his remaining months in office opposing President Donald Trump despite losing his primary re-election bid.
Apart from this, Massie also took a dig at the president’s ambitious ballroom renovation plans.
During NBC’s Meet the Press segment on Sunday, May 24, Massie told host Kristen Welker that he might have been defeated because of his active role in demanding transparency in the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, which would result in a sense of justice for all the victims of the convicted offender.
'I Think the Biggest Crime I Committed...'
Thomas Massie slams the Donald Trump administration.
Massie was unseated in a May 19 showdown by former Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein after serving 14 years in the House.
During the NBC interview, Massie said that his demand to the Trump administration to release the Epstein files under the Epstein Files Transparency Act legislation might have caused his defeat.
Massie, along with Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna, penned a bill that asked the government to provide clarity on federal materials related to Epstein.
The Kentucky lawmaker said, “I think the biggest crime I committed against the swamp, Kristen, was showing the American people that somebody on the right could join somebody on the left and get something done, which is releasing the Epstein files.”
The MAGA administration was pressured by both sides of the American political spectrum to release the Epstein files, after which the president signed the legislation in 2025. Despite the Department of Justice (DOJ) releasing the files, some critics believe that much important information has still not been revealed and is being redacted from the public.
The Trump administration has faced public scrutiny in relation to the Epstein case because of the president's alleged ties to the disgraced financier before their reported fallout in the early 2000s.
Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing or having any knowledge of Epstein's criminal activities.
Massie’s defeat comes following the Republican and Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy’s loss in his reelection bid after Trump reportedly urged the voters to unseat him.
Massie’s House colleague, Rep. Julia Letlow, attained the most votes and is all set to lock horns with State Treasurer John Fleming.
The outgoing representative further claimed that the president’s One Big Beautiful Act, which he had aggressively opposed, added about $3.8 trillion to the deficit.
He declared that it was “absolutely worth it” for him to challenge the president and other Republicans despite losing his House district.
Thomas Massie Vows to Continue Opposing Donald Trump
Thomas Massie says that he will publicly name Jeffrey Epstein associates.
Massie said, “Some people on the left have Trump derangement syndrome, they call it TDS. But there's a growing number of people on the right who have a form of TDS called Trump disappointment syndrome."
During the interview, Massie also vowed that he would continue opposing Trump for the rest of his congressional term. He said, “I've got seven more months to keep going against the grain, which means voting for principles and for people over party.”
Amid this, he also took a dig at Trump’s White House ballroom renovation plans that have a speculated proposed budget of $1 billion. He called it an “egregious waste of money.”
