Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson criticized President Donald Trump during a recent conversation with podcaster Megyn Kelly over Trump's remarks about former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent.

While speaking with Kelly on The Megyn Kelly Show, Carlson also took a dig at the president for his handling of the Iran war and foreign policy decisions.

On March 17 this year, Kent stepped down from his position as the director of the National Counterterrorism Center in protest of the Trump administration’s conflict with Iran.

Trump reportedly criticized Kent for remarrying in 2023 following the 2019 death of the latter's former wife, Shannon Kent, who was killed by a suicide bomber in Syria.

During an interview with The New York Times, Carlson called Kent the "bravest man I know."

He said, "Joe is the bravest man I know, and he can’t be dismissed as a nut. He’s leaving a job that gave him access to highest-level relevant intelligence. The neocons will now try to destroy him for that. He understands that and did it anyway.”

Tucker Carlson Says Shannon Kent Was 'Killed by Donald Trump's Administration'

In March, Trump commented on how "quickly" Kent got remarried after his wife's killing.

He said, "His wife was killed. He remarried fairly quickly. His wife was killed and I felt badly for him. He ran for Congress, he lost. He ran for Congress again and he lost.”

In his resignation letter to Trump, Kent wrote that while he supported the values and foreign policies he campaigned on in 2016, 2020 and 2024, he was not happy with his decision to launch the military strikes in Iran.

Additionally, on the show, the former host also pointed out that Trump had criticized Rep. Thomas Massie for remarrying a year after the death of the latter's wife.

Carlson further said, "And killed by who? Killed by Donald Trump’s administration. Joe Kent’s wife was killed, the mother of his two sons was killed as a [counterintelligence] officer in Syria by a suicide bomb. What was she doing there? She was sent there by the Trump administration to fight another one of Israel’s wars."

"So, it’s a decision that Donald Trump made that got Joe Kent’s wife killed. That’s a fact. It’s not interpretation. It’s a fact. And now Trump is attacking the guy for getting remarried after that wife is killed serving his administration? It’s, it’s almost too much. It’s way below the belt,” Carlson added.

'He Will Be Gone Relatively Soon'

While talking about the future of American politics, Carlson took a swipe at the president and said that “he will be gone relatively soon.”

Carlson also criticized the decision to initiate the war in Iran and said that Trump should focus on Americans rather than foreign affairs. "Make sure your own country doesn’t degrade," he stated.

Kent got married to his current wife, Heather Kaiser, on August 31, 2023, 4 and a half years after the demise of Shannon.
