'Charlie Kirk Way' Street Sign Causes Stir

On Wednesday, April 29, a "Charlie Kirk Way" street sign was installed in Westminster to pay tribute to the late conservative leader.

The sign replaces a portion of "All American Way," the city’s newest street sign.

Kirk was fatally shot in September 2025 during a political rally in Utah Valley.

After the unveiling of the sign, Westminster Mayor Chi Charlie Nguyen told ABC7 that the street name is intended to promote freedom of speech and encourage locals to engage fearlessly in the city.

Fox News shares a view of the "Charlie Kirk Way" street sign in Westminster, California.

Nguyen said he proposed renaming the street, and the city council approved the measure in a 4-1 vote in the fall of 2025.

He further stated that Kirk’s work with the younger generation inspired him.

According to reports, the redesignation of the street will not affect residents. Officials will only change the physical "All American Way" street signs between Westminster Boulevard and 13th Street.

The street renaming drew mixed reactions from the public.

Ann Galvan, a resident of Garden Grove said, “I thought it was a joke.” Ashley Lawrence from Los Angeles said, “I think that’s so awful.”

Westminster resident Terry Rains said, “Are you e***** kidding me? Sorry, that was my gut reaction.”

“That street is called All American Way. That is inclusive. That welcomes everyone into our Civic Center. These are all public buildings, and so tainting the name just completely denigrates the entire... what that stands for,” Rains added.

Another resident said, “It’s a little ridiculous.”

One resident, however, approved the move, saying, “I'm really happy to see that, because I'm his big fan.”

Responding to the criticism, Nguyen said, “You can’t please everyone.”

“Was Dead Racist Drive already taken?” one individual asked.

Some users, however, supported the decision. One user wrote, “Hoping Charlie is smiling down today!”

Another stated, “That’s a classy tribute. RIP Charlie Kirk — dude left a real mark.”

An individual called out the critics, saying, “Charlie Kirk is dead, and you’re still this obsessed? Mommy and Daddy sure failed at raising you! Get a hobby that doesn’t involve grave-dancing.”
