'Thomas Massie for Checkmate': Outgoing Representative Sparks Online Buzz as He Hints at 2028 Presidential Run
Rep. Thomas Massie, a vocal critic of President Donald Trump, has created quite the buzz on the internet after he hinted at his possible candidacy in the 2028 presidential election.
This comes just days after his loss in the Kentucky district primary election to former Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein, a Trump-backed candidate.
Massie took to his X account to announce that he filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) for the 2028 election.
He wrote, “I filed with FEC for the 2028 House race. This allows me to raise funds to continue my political operations supporting my position as a current office holder and as a potential candidate for federal office. I haven’t made a final decision about which office to seek, if I run.”
Netizens React to Thomas Massie’s Announcement
Thomas Massie has filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) for the 2028 election.
Some social media users were quick to react to the news and held rather polarizing views on the same.
One X user wrote, “We are with you for the long term, Sir.” Another user stated, “Fantastic, great to see you staying strong.”
An individual commented, “I bet if you were elected as the President, there would finally be some arrests.”
“Seek them all, Drain the Epstein adjacent billionaires of millions,” noted another.
One user asserted, “You have my full support.”
On the other hand, some internet users were not very pleased with Massie’s decision.
One user stated, “At this point, you are toxic. You won’t win again. Go away.”
Another wrote, “Your own constituents did not want you. What makes you think everyone else does?”
“Have you considered getting a real job instead of grifting off Americans?” asked one user.
A few political commentators also gave their insights on how this would change the political spectrum in the 2028 presidential election.
Sharing his view on Massie's decision, former Arizona Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger said, “Watching MAGA light itself on fire will be soothing and cathartic.”
Podcaster and White House columnist Brian Karem stated, “Thomas Massie for checkmate.”
'Massie Is No Longer Just Fighting Trump Politically'
Brian Allen reacts to Thomas Massie filing a statement of candidacy.
Political commentator and podcaster Brian Allen explained what it would mean if Massie is able to turn his ambitious political dreams into reality in the 2028 presidential election.
Allen wrote in a post on X, “Thomas Massie has officially filed a statement of candidacy, allowing him to begin raising money for a potential 2028 presidential run. That instantly changes the meaning behind a lot of what’s happening right now. Because Massie is no longer just fighting Trump politically."
"He’s positioning himself as a possible post-Trump alternative for the faction of the right that distrusts foreign intervention, hates establishment Republicans, opposes surveillance expansion, views the GOP as drifting too far into loyalty politics, Epstein-class protectors, and fights foreign wars. The Republican civil war is getting more real by the week," Allen added.
According to Politico, Massie has turned out to be one of Trump’s most formidable foes in the current times. He has revolted against the president and his MAGA administration in issues like the Jeffrey Epstein files and the Iran conflict.
