Political commentator Megyn Kelly criticized the Trump administration and news outlet Axios over a recent report which alleged that Cuba plans to launch a drone attack on key U.S. locations.

During a recent episode of The Megyn Kelly Show on SiriusXM, Kelly discussed the report published over the weekend, which claimed that U.S. officials fear an imminent threat from the Caribbean nation.

She described this as an insult to the intelligence of the American public.

The Axios report, published on Sunday, May 17, cited classified intelligence claiming Cuba had acquired more than 300 military drones and had discussed targeting the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, military vessels and potentially Key West, Florida.

Kelly claimed that the report lacked credibility. "A threat from Cuba, which is basically completely imploding and not in a position to threaten anybody," she said.

She questioned the suggestion that Cuba, which she said struggles to maintain power in hospital intensive care units, is "thinking about bombing us. That's what Axios wants you to believe."

Kelly said that she believes the administration is providing information to Axios to build public support for a military campaign against Cuba, and that media outlets have an obligation to maintain a "healthy sense of skepticism, especially when you are obviously being fed a bunch of bull****."

“These are lies,” Kelly stated, referring to the report.

She stated that there can be a healthy debate about whether the US can rescue them from their poor living conditions, which they have imposed on them.

"Please do it honestly. Let's not pretend that Cuba is about to attack us, okay? Like this is an insult to our intelligence, okay?" Kelly noted.

A senior U.S. official cited in the Axios report said, "When we think about those types of technologies being that close, and a range of bad actors from terror groups to drug cartels to Iranians to the Russians, it's concerning. It's a growing threat."

Kelly called out the media outlet directly, saying, "You gave your audience absolutely no context for all the you just heaped upon them. You just wanted the exclusive. You want to be patted on the head by whatever administration official is giving you these exclusives."

Megyn Kelly Says Cuba Is ‘Hanging by a Thread’

During the same episode of the podcast, Kelly said that U.S. military operations in Venezuela earlier in 2026 had cut off oil shipments to Cuba, leaving the country dealing with “extreme oil shortages" and without power for much of the day.

“The fall of Venezuela or its leadership was the death knell to Cuba,” she added.

"Cuba, which had been hanging by a thread," has neither the oil nor the power to contemplate an attack on the United States, Kelly mentioned.

She said she questioned whether the administration was using media reports as a pretext for military action against Cuba."

"Don't insult our intelligence," she said, questioning whether the administration was using the intelligence leaks to establish a pretext for future military action against the island nation.
