‘The Whole Left Is Lying’: Top Trump Official Rips Into The Pitt Over ‘Misleading’ ICE Depiction
A popular television series called The Pitt drew criticism from a Trump administration official. Tom Homan, the border chief under President Donald Trump, told Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Monday, April 13, that he did not like how the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were depicted in the medical drama's episode.
The 64-year-old Homan said, "I’ve been on the Hill negotiating the DHS shutdown. They don’t want to reform ICE, they want to shut it down. And they talk about ICE making arrests in schools, in churches, and in hospitals. We’ve never made an arrest inside of a hospital. We’ve never made an arrest inside of a church."
He continued, "The whole left is misinforming the American people, and that’s why you see the hate, and the rhetoric, because all of these people are lying about what the men and women of ICE and Border Patrol do.”
The 11th episode, titled ‘5 P.M.,’ showed ICE agents introducing a detainee named Pranita, who had sustained a serious injury during an immigration operation at a restaurant. Pranita gets an X-ray, which reveals that she doesn’t have a fracture that would need surgery. Instead, she receives a sling; however, before she can get one, ICE agents intervene to take her away. The nurse tries to intervene but is restrained by the agents, reports The Daily Beast.
Noah Wyle, who played doctor in the show, revealed HBO edited show's anti-ICE episode.
Noah Wyle, who played the lead doctor on the show, said he became aware of the changes after discussions with HBO. In a conversation with Variety published on April 9, Noah, who is also an executive producer, mentioned he was initially concerned when he found out about the changes.
He said, "The negotiation was being driven by political reasons, creative reasons, fear, uncertainty, all sorts of legitimate reasons. I’ll be honest and say that I was concerned about the edits we were making initially."
Series producer John Wells mentioned in an episode of The Town with Matt Belloni that they wanted to be “cautious” in their depiction of ICE in the series. He stressed, "We’re not trying to politicize it. We’re simply trying to put forward what sometimes are uncomfortable truths, but are truths nonetheless. We’re just trying to be truthful. And if we can be truthful, it’s not left or right, it’s just our telling of what’s factually happening without trying to take a side.”
Last year in July, federal immigration agents arrested Denis Guillen-Solis, a landscaper from Honduras, after chasing him within the Ontario Advanced Surgical Center in Ontario, California. As per the Los Angeles Times, a federal grand jury indicted two healthcare workers for obstructing and assaulting law enforcement officers.
Tom Homan replaced Border Patrol ‘commander at large’ Greg Bovino after the criticized immigration enforcement in Minnesota, known as Operation Metro Surge, which led to the fatal shootings of two American citizens by federal agents: 37-year-old mother Renee Good and 37-year-old VA ICU nurse Alex Pretti.
