'Stroking His Ego': Internet Claims China Played 'YMCA' at State Banquet Just to 'Manipulate' Trump
President Donald Trump's recently concluded three-day trip to China sparked significant buzz across the globe.
In his first visit to the Asian superpower since 2017, Trump met Chinese President Xi Jinping and discussed several issues related to U.S.-China relations.
The Chinese military band closed Trump's visit to China by playing YMCA by the Village People, the song closely associated with the president's campaign rallies, at the conclusion of the lavish state banquet.

According to a report by The Independent, Trump’s three-day trip to China ended on a high note when the Chinese military band paid the perfect tribute to the president by playing the song YMCA.
A music program at the state banquet featured several well-known pieces, including Can You Feel the Love Tonight by Elton John, Edelweiss and The Sound of Music from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, and We Are the World by USA for Africa.
The final song was YMCA, which Trump has played at the conclusion of his rallies throughout his 2024 presidential campaign and beyond.
Prior to the music program, Trump, Jinping, and other top U.S. and Chinese officials attended an extravagant state banquet, that featured dishes from the Huaiyang cuisine.
YMCA, released in 1978, became a recurring feature at Trump's campaign events.
During the song’s chorus, Trump typically moves his arms and sways, a gesture that has become associated with his rally appearances.
The song has also become a fixture at Mar-a-Lago fundraisers.
In an interview with Variety, Trump had revealed that his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, once told him, "Darling, please don't dance. It's not presidential."
'Trump Is Such a Fun President'
The Chinese military band's choice of going with YMCA as the closing song drew reactions on social media.
One user wrote, "Who would have ever thought YMCA would become a presidential song and played by groups and bands all over the world?!!"
Another user commented, “That's so cool. The only thing that would have made it better??? The President giving them a quick Trumpy dance to the beat,” posting a GIF of Trump grooving to YMCA.
An individual stated, “Trump is such a fun President. We will never have one like him again.”
However, others were more skeptical of China's intent behind the move.
One user wrote, “Yeah, the Chinese are very smart and they know by stroking his ego he will let them basically get whatever they ask for.”
“The Chinese know how to manipulate a fool, so they played YMCA for Trump,” another added.
An individual commented, “Because in diplomacy, the side doing the flattering is usually the side that needs something.”
