Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recently shared a video from the 2026 Indianapolis 500, showing a military flyover during the famous race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The clip featured a UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter from the Indiana Army National Guard flying above the track during the pace lap.

While Hegseth celebrated the moment as a display of American pride and military strength, California Governor Gavin Newsom mocked Hegseth's post with a sharp response, saying, “Sir, we just want lower gas prices.”

However, it appeared that a number of internet users were not impressed by Newsom’s jibe at Hegseth.

An X user reacts to Gavin Newsom’s post.

As Newsom took a jab at Hegseth's X post, the California governor faced heavy criticism online.

Pointing to rising fuel costs while cars and aircraft burned fuel during the race, Newsom tried shifting the blame to Hegseth.

However, several social media users accused the California governor of hypocrisy, arguing that California already has some of the highest gas prices and taxes in the United States.

While some users blamed Newsom’s policies for increasing fuel costs, others claimed that he stayed silent when prices were higher during former President Joe Biden’s administration.

“How incredibly arrogant of you to cause the extra taxes on ca. [California] citizens causing high prices. Chase it ask the oil refineries from the state AND STILL TRY TO BLAME THE FEDERAL GOVT,” one user wrote.

Another added, “The irony of this coming from your d*mb*ss team when CA has the highest gas prices in the country.”

An individual argued, “Hey Governor, fix your State before pointing fingers at the current administration since you failed to say anything at all during the Biden reign of terror when gas prices were higher than they are now. Stop the hypocrisy.”

One user stated, “Pretty much everywhere else in the country has lower gas prices than California does. You might want to consider it's a you problem.”

Another noted, “California has the highest gas prices in the nation because it’s a choice Newsom and other democrats made. Highest gas taxes and fees in the country.”
