'Sorry for Misleading': 'Tormented' Tucker Carlson Issues Public Apology Over Past Trump Support
Once a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump, conservative political commentator Tucker Carlson was one of the major names who backed the former during his 2024 presidential campaign.
Fast forward to 2026, and Carlson said that he feels "tormented" for endorsing Trump in the past.
The 56-year-old issued a public apology for what he described as misleading people, after expressing disillusionment over the president's decision to go to war with Iran.
'Wrestle With Our Own Consciences'
On the April 20 episode of The Tucker Carlson Show, Carlson weighed in on how he feels about publicly showing support to Trump in the run-up to the 2024 presidential elections.
He opened up about his one-on-one relationship with the president.
Moreover, he claimed that many people who once strongly backed Trump are now "very disappointed" in him.
Tucker Carlson apologizes for supporting Donald Trump during a recent episode of the 'The Tucker Carlson Show.'
Carlson said, “In fact, more than disappointed, feel betrayed or enraged, feel like [expletive].”
He criticized a CNN poll for allegedly claiming that "100% of MAGA voters still support Trump," and called the polling "fraudulent."
The right-wing political commentator said that he would take to heart the perspective of his brother, Buckley Carlson, who has supported Trump since 2015, voted for him three times and worked with people in the Trump White House.
Carlson said that because he and others wrote speeches and campaigned for Trump, they became associated with the Republican Party's decisions.
"It's like a moment to wrestle with our own consciences," he said.
"We'll be tormented by it for a long time. I will be, and I want to say I'm sorry for misleading people in it. It was not intentional. That's all I'll say," Carlson stated.
Carlson's apology followed a Truth Social post that Trump made on April 10 criticizing several media figures who had once supported him.
In the Truth Social post, the president lashed out at Candace Owens, Megyn Kelly, Alex Jones and Carlson, describing them in various unflattering terms.
Of Carlson specifically, Trump wrote that he could not finish college, that he was a "broken man" who had "never been the same" since being dismissed from Fox News, and suggested that he seek psychiatric help.
