Wish you could glide through the summer without getting hot and bothered? Ever wondered how that one seemingly perfect friend of yours always seems to have so much energy in the heat? It’s time we brought you up to speed with the smart cooling hacks that will help you beat the sunshine whenever the temperature rises.

Let’s dive into the details and take a look at everything you need to stay cool, calm, and collected this summer.

Hydration is the answer

The more you drink, the easier your body is going to find it to regulate its temperature. You’re also going to be keeping dehydration in check so that you don’t get a headache, feel drowsy, or find yourself in need of a lie-down and fluids.

A cold dip works wonders

A quick 5 minutes in a cold bath or under a cold shower will bring your body temperature right down in a way that really makes a difference. When your body temperature rises in the heat, your stress levels move with it. Knowing that you can reset your temperature and your stress with some breathing exercises in cold water can be really liberating.

Cold compresses also work

Applying a cold cloth to any part of the body where you can feel your pulse is a proven way to cool yourself down. The beauty of this approach is that you can do it anywhere, allowing you to take the edge off the heat in a way that allows you to stay cool and calm. Perfect if you need to relax but don’t have time for cold showers during the day.

Lighter clothing is a smart move

White and light pastel shades will reflect heat, whereas darker shades like navy, charcoal grey, and black will absorb most of the heat. Picking a lighter shade and a lighter fabric that is breathable is a smart way to stay cool. You could even opt for a sweat-wicking sports shirt that pulls the moisture away from your skin and helps you stay even cooler.

Fans keep the air moving

One of the problems with the heat is that there is often no breeze to cool you down. Setting up a fan can work, but sometimes it’s going to feel like it’s blowing warm air in your face. You can sidestep this issue by placing a bowl of ice directly in front of the fan so that it is blowing air across the top of it. This will cool the air and help you set up a steady flow of ice-cold air.

Chill your pillowcases

While it might sound a little crazy, bagging up your pillowcases and popping them in the fridge for an hour really does help. You’ll be able to cool yourself down and stay comfortable so that you can drop off to sleep much earlier. Ideal when you want to stay rested so that you’re ready to do it all again in the morning.

Opt for ice packs

Freezing a few bottles of water and then using them as homemade ice packs is a great way to stay cool. You can make as many of them as you want, provided you have space in the freezer, and you can use them in a wide array of different ways:

● Sleeping with a couple of ice packs near your feet helps keep you cool at night.

● Wrapping an ice pack in a cloth and placing it against the back of your chair can help you concentrate when you’re working in the heat.

● Doing the same thing when you’re driving can make a real difference if you have to venture out in the heat.

The more bottles you freeze, the more options you’ll have at your disposal when you want to adapt to the heat.

Open windows strategically

If you can set up a continuous airflow across the room – perhaps even between rooms – you will be able to bring the temperature right down. It may take a little trial and error, but once you have it right, you can think of it as your own bespoke air-conditioning system!

Get your home insulated

It’s not just the winter months when you will feel the benefits of a professionally insulated home. Insulation reflects heat in the summer, allowing you to stay cooler for longer while everyone else sweats in the summer and pays more towards heating in the winter.

Turn off your screens

Your screens kick out so much more heat than you may expect, and that means turning them off can make a real difference to how comfortable you are. The TV, PC, and all those handheld devices are like mini heaters that are dotted all over the place. Turn off as many of them as you can at any given time, and it will certainly make a difference.

Replace your salt

When you sweat, you lose salt as well as water. Not enough salt causes your muscles to cramp, your mind to feel fuzzy, and can slow down key cellular processes. An electrolyte drinks is a smart way to manage your salt intake while also staying hydrated.

Eat a little and often

Breaking up your meals into small bite-sized options is a great way to make sure that you can regulate your body temperature. Big meals spike your metabolism, which in turn will create a large amount of body heat.

Heatwaves start off fun because we all love the sunshine, but they can drain your energy and leave you feeling fatigued before you know it. If staying inside and watching Netflix, searching for new casinos to play at, or adding to your Amazon wishlist isn’t for you, taking care of your body is the way to get outside safely. Focus on hydrating and fueling as Mother Nature intended, and you will notice the difference so much quicker than you think.

Now go and enjoy the sunshine the smart way!
