Sarah Ferguson is facing fresh scrutiny after claims emerged that she could be seeking a financial safety net from King Charles while keeping quiet about some of the Royal Family's most damaging controversies.

The Duchess of York, better known to many as Fergie, has spent decades surviving royal scandals, public embarrassment and financial troubles.

Critics have suggested she may be seeking long-term financial protection from King Charles in exchange for staying silent about the York family's controversies — a prospect that, according to insiders, would sit poorly with the British public, reported RadarOnline. One source close to royal circles was blunt in their assessment.

"There are people around the institution who see Fergie as the ultimate royal survivor – but also as someone who always finds herself back at the Palace door asking for financial support or protection. Critics think the idea of negotiating silence in return for security in the form of a fat annual pension from the King would go down terribly with the public. She is essentially the ultimate royal family leech, and hard-pressed UK citizens are not fans of freeloaders like her."

The allegations have drawn significant attention from royal commentators and media because any major television interview or memoir from Ferguson could potentially reopen some of the monarchy's most painful wounds.

Another source said, "The fear among some senior figures is that any major interview discussing Epstein, Andrew and the York family chaos would reopen one of the darkest chapters of recent royal history just as Charles is trying to stabilize the monarchy, and he may be likely to effectively buy Sarah's silence by giving her a pension to shut up for the rest of her life."

The latest development gained momentum after royal biographer Andrew Lownie suggested Ferguson could be negotiating behind the scenes instead of cashing in with a tell-all. "That may be what Fergie's negotiating at the moment. Can she get a nice pension from them and not have to do an Oprah interview?" he said. Lownie's recently updated book has reignited questions about the York family's place within the monarchy and whether King Charles should continue protecting them.

He also questioned the public role of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, saying: "The fact that they are still swanning around the Middle East, using their titles... it doesn't send out the right signals if you want to work your passage back. It's confusing." "I think it's a very schizophrenic relationship at the moment with the royals and Beatrice and Eugenie." According to Lownie, there appears to be a split within the Royal Family itself.

"One minute they're very publicly being told they're not going to be invited to Ascot, then they are going. You get the sense of distancing, and I think there are possibly two schools of thought here. There's Camilla, William, and Kate, who see the reputational damage and want to keep them at arm's length, and then there's Charles, who is a bit sentimental and feels obligated to be protective."

A palace source added, "William and Catherine are far more hardline when it comes to reputational risk. There is a belief among some younger royals that the York scandals continue dragging the institution backwards at a time when Charles is trying to modernize it."

As of publication, neither Ferguson nor representatives for King Charles had commented publicly on the alleged negotiations — leaving open the question of whether a financial arrangement is being discussed or whether the speculation reflects insider concern more than confirmed talks.
