Earlier this month, the San Francisco Fire Department responded to a call about a dog that fell off a cliff while chasing a bird in Fort Funston.

While the rescue was taking place, they informed the public that they should avoid the area while firefighters set up a system to rescue the lost dog.

Spoiler alert: While the incident may sound dramatic, in the end the dog was unharmed, didn't appear distressed and was promptly reunited with its owners.

The San Francisco Fire Department shared a detailed video and description of the dog rescue.

SFFD also shared a longer video on social media, which showed and described the rescue in action.

It took a large group of firefighters to rescue the dog using a rigging system.

"The crews put someone over the side and that firefighter goes down and puts a harness on the dog to get to the result that you see right here, of our firefighter being pulled up over the mountain," a narrator said. "The dog is not in distress, looks like they're having no problem getting up. It's a team effort, taking time. The dog was safely pulled up and reunited with its owner. There are no injuries to the dog. There was no injury to our personnel. San Francisco Fire Department is here to serve you at every moment."

One commenter appeared to provide additional details about the incident, writing on Facebook, "I was there saw the whole thing, a dog walker was walking 7 dogs, this one was one of them, and there’s a husky in the pack, this dog was chasing the husky, yet, the husky knew this area well knew it’s a cliff down there but this doggie didn’t know, that’s how this happened, very luckily he didn’t fall all the way down and could be rescued."

Another member of the public said, "Heroes! People really need to keep their dogs leashed when near the edge. This has happened many times over the years. When I was a professional dog walker (many years ago) I always kept my dogs right near me when close to the edge."

Many others praised the firefighters for their work, with one person saying for example, "My goodness what a rescue, those cliffs and ice plants didn't make it easy. The dog knew he was im good hands, look how calm the dog was. Heroes....glad no one or the dog was injured."
