Psychologist Claims Donald Trump Shows ‘Magical Thinking,’ Says He Wants Followers to ‘Worship Him Like God’
A psychologist has raised concerns about Donald Trump’s mental health stating that the president might be showing signs of psychosis and is resorting to “magical thinking.”
Dr. John Gartner, a former Johns Hopkins University professor, also cited examples of Trump’s social media posts to support his assessment. In recent social media posts, Gartner pointed out the AI-generated picture where the president had showcased himself as Jesus Christ and another Truth Social post in which he called himself the ‘acting president of Venezuela.’
Psychologist Feels Trump is Resorting to Magical Thinking
Donald Trump hailed himself as the "Acting President of Venezuela" after ousting Nicolas Maduro.
The psychologist who claims that Trump’s mental health might be deteriorating, gave the examples of these social media posts to deduce that Trump might be resorting to “magical thinking.”
In an interaction with The Daily Beast, Gartner said, “It’s something that, again, we associate with psychosis. We also associate it with young children. Freud called it ‘primary process.’ It’s kind of the most primitive type of thinking, where if you imagine it, it must be true. But this is just magical thinking. Anything that occurs to him—any stray, crazy thought—is true."
Saying that Trump wishes for the entire world to view him as a supreme figure, the psychologist added, “His grandiosity is so extreme that not only does he want to be the pope and Jesus and the president of Venezuela and the Mullah of Iran—he wants to be all of these things at once. He wants the world to worship him, and he wants to erect massive monuments to praise himself.”

Dr. Gartner further gave examples of Trump’s ambitious projects like the so-called “Arc de Trump” which is his lavish White House ballroom and his repeated attempts to name things especially prominent buildings of historical importance after himself.
The psychologist alleged that the president wishes for everyone to worship him as God. He said, “The ways in which he’s been pressuring various states to rename their airports and their train stations and their tunnels after him.” He pointed out this as signs that the POTUS “wants the world to worship him as a God.”
Before this, Dr. John Gartner had also claimed that Trump is displaying four important symptoms of dementia. He had said, “We're seeing the deterioration of his thinking, of his verbal language, of his physical body, and of his behavior. Those are the four main areas we look for in dementia.”
However, the White House has repeatedly denied that Trump is showing any signs of deterioration in terms of his physical or mental health. Previously, Trump has also talked about acing many cognitive tests.
The White House physician also insisted that the president remains in “excellent health.” However, some of his social media posts and past actions had social media users alleging that he was showing signs of extremely “narcissistic” behavior. His AI-generated post of showing himself as Jesus Christ drew criticism on the internet until it had to be taken down. He later said that he was shown to be a 'doctor' in the picture and not Christ.
