Dana White faces flak for his recent comments on men's mental health struggles.
'Pretty Stupid Opinion’: Dana White Sparks Outrage Over Shocking Men's Mental Health Remarks
For years, the topic of mental health and its struggles has remained a sensitive topic, especially for men.
Many have historically faced societal pressure to uphold a rigidly traditional tough-guy image.
Now, UFC CEO Dana White has shared a controversial opinion on the issue, garnering widespread attention.
During a recent high-profile interview, White argued that men should not publicly complain about their emotional struggles, asserting that they should maintain an outward appearance of strength and refrain from showing vulnerability.
His comments did not sit well with many internet users, who bombarded him with criticism and strongly disagreed with his opinion.
'Never, Ever, Vocalize Their Mental-Health Struggles'
During an exclusive interview with Time magazine — where he appeared on the cover ahead of the upcoming UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House — White talked about a variety of topics, ranging from his early support for President Donald Trump to the sports memorabilia in his office.
But the most talked-about segment of the conversation was when he shared his thoughts on how men should navigate mental well-being.
Acknowledging that he is “unapologetically masculine,” White discussed his concept of an ideal man.
He explained that a true man should “never split the bill when out to dinner with a woman,” reasoning that men should never shirk their traditional family and financial responsibilities.
Dana White's comments on men's mental health sparked discussions online.
Moreover, he argued that men should “never, ever, vocalize their mental-health struggles.”
“Talking about it publicly, I just feel like it opens the door to make young men think that it’s OK to just f-cking go, ‘Oh, I’m having mental [health issues],’” White said, adding, “Handle it behind closed doors. Don’t show that weakness to anybody.”
The 56-year-old also pushed back against the phrase “toxic masculinity.”
He clarified that if a person’s attitude “begets unjustified violence,” then that individual is simply a “d*******g,” emphasizing that there is a major difference between being a "d*******g and being masculine."
Netizens Call Out Dana White
White has often presented a masculine image of himself, sharing that his UFC office featured a room filled with items such as an encased AK-47 and a grenade.
However, netizens seemed critical of his opinion.
One user wrote, “Not to mention we watched this guy beat his wife on camera. He should probably sit the “I’m emotional strong” convo out.”
Another user stated, “This point of view is why so many men take drastic measures against themselves.”
“No one’s coming to save a man in this world! It’s always yourself vs the world,” an individual noted.
One user commented, “Dana and Donald two fake tough guys! You’re all KINGS fellaz!”
A person claimed, “1000% literally one of Dana’s worst takes ever.”
“This is a pretty stupid opinion If you struggle with mental health like i do, talk to someone. It helps, you don’t need to talk about it online but get help and don’t fight alone,” wrote another.
