Pete Hegseth Faces Heated Showdown as Protesters Disrupt Hearing, Shout 'War Criminal'
Pete Hegseth faced questions from lawmakers on April 29 and April 30, 2026 over the ongoing conflict in Iran. However, the session was interrupted by angry protestors voiced strong criticism, and one of them went on to call the Defense secretary a “war criminal.”
The unidentified protester shouted at Hegseth, saying, “You're a war criminal! You should be arrested. What you're doing is despicable. The American people do not want to go to war.”
The former Fox News host faced another session of questioning on Capitol Hill on Thursday, April 30, 2026, where the senators reprimanded or praised his handling of the situation in Iran.
The Republican Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Sen. Roger Wicker, began the hearing by stating that the U.S. is in its most dangerous security environment since World War II. Wicker also praised Donald Trump’s deployment of U.S. military force.

Hegseth stopped speaking when the protestors interrupted him with criticism and waited for them to finish. According to the Pew Research Center, the American public is disappointed with Trump waging a war in Iran, in which 61% are unhappy with the President’s functioning of the war.
On the other hand, only 37% of the public expressed support for the war. Talking about the protestors who disrupted Pete Hegseth’s grilling session, they were from an organization called CODEPINK. It is reportedly a feminist grassroots organization and an anti-war group.
A video that has circulated widely online shows two protestors wearing pink clothing and holding placards as they were escorted out by security after they interrupted Hegseth’s session.
Protestors Called for Pete Hegseth’s Arrest
CODEPINK protestors were escorted out of the hearing after targeting Pete Hegseth.
Addressing the disruption that followed after the protestors directed remarks at the defense secretary, Sen. Roger Wicker said, “We appreciate the First Amendment rights of Americans to express themselves, but disruptions of this hearing will not be tolerated.”
Some of the CODEPINK protestors also blasted Hegseth while he was exiting the venue. While some said that he should be “ashamed” of himself, others called for his arrest. One of the protestors also questioned him about the horrifying Iranian school attack, which claimed the lives of many children.
The Pentagon chief also had a tense exchange with Democrats in a six-hour-long House Armed Services Committee hearing where he was grilled on the expenditure surrounding the war and the decreasing stockpile of important weapons.
The American Crusade author sparred with many House representatives but had a particularly intense showdown with Democrat Ro Khanna from California, who asked him how much the war in Iran had cost the American taxpayers.
Khanna asked Pete Hegseth, “I would simply ask you what the cost is of an Iranian nuclear bomb?” To this, the secretary of war pushed back against the Democrat by accusing him of allegedly asking “gotcha questions".
The chief financial officer of the Pentagon revealed to the lawmakers that the estimated cost of the Iran war was an estimated $25 billion, adding that most of the expenditures have been on munitions.
Reportedly, the military has also spent a lot of money on equipment replacement and running the operations. It has also been revealed that the MAGA administration’s 2027 budget would accelerate defense spending to a projected $1.5 trillion.
