Despite being away from the spotlight for years, Hollywood icon Jack Nicholson is once again making the headlines.
Celebrating his 89th birthday on April 22, 2026, the legend was seen on his daughter's Instagram story, much to the delight of fans.
Now, people close to Nicholson have said that the actor may not be done with Hollywood just yet.
According to reports, he is considering taking up one final major movie role as he approaches 90, sparking excitement about a possible return to the big screen.
Friends, Colleagues Encourage Jack Nicholson to Make Big-Screen Return
Sources close to the actor told RadarOnline that Nicholson might be preparing for one final return to the big screen after staying away from acting for over 15 years.
This comes after a number of Nicholson’s longtime friends and agents started encouraging him to take up another movie project.
“A lot of his old Hollywood agents and friends have been trying to get him to agree to take on another project for one last hurrah. They all feel like he still has something to offer,” said an insider.
The three-time Oscar winner last appeared in the 2010 romantic comedy How Do You Know alongside Reese Witherspoon.
Following the encouragement from friends and colleagues, sources noted that “lately Jack seems to be warming to the idea,” even though “he doesn't have the energy he used to have.”
Yet, Nicholson’s inner circle still feels “he would actually really do well being back on set.”
“He doesn't have the energy he used to have so he's not going to be up for late-night shoots or early morning call times, but the feeling among his inner circle is that he would actually really do well being back on set,” a source revealed.
Even his old friend, director James L. Brooks shared hope about the actor's comeback.
“I mean, he's gotten scripts, he's reading them, and I'm sure we'll be seeing them,” Brooks noted, while dubbing Nicholson "the greatest actor of the generation.”
Brooks and the star previously worked together in How Do You Know, Terms of Endearment, and As Good as It Gets.
'His Kids Are Very Supportive of the Idea'

Meanwhile, apart from his friends and colleagues, Nicholson also seems to have the full support of his family, in case he decides to return to Hollywood for one final movie.
Sources close to the 89-year-old actor said that he's in relatively good health, and therefore is deemed fit for a comeback.
“His kids are very supportive of the idea too, especially Ray [Nicholson], who would love the chance to do a movie with his dad,” the insider shared.
“Family is everything to Jack – he's very close to his kids and they've really shown up for him in his later years. He says all the time how lucky he is that they're not too busy for him,” the source added.
Nicholson recently appeared in a rare birthday photo posted by his daughter Lorraine Nicholson, where he appeared celebrating with singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell.
