The Nordstrom Anniversary sale begins July 15, and shoppers might be surprised to learn that the annual sale is the perfect opportunity to save on clothing for back-to-school, diaper bags and other things you need when you're a parent.

The retail giant began as a small West Coast shoe store and evolved into the national department store we all know and love. In 1901, John W. Nordstrom opened a shoe store in Seattle with Carl Wallin, and it was initially called Wallin & Nordstrom. After being acquired by Nordstrom's sons, the company began to expand throughout the pacific northwest. But, even though there were stores throughout Seattle and Portland it wasn't until the 1960s that it began selling women's clothing.
Today, the retailer sells both luxury and mid-priced clothing, shoes, makeup, skincare, haircare and more for men, women and children. It is an easy one-stop shop for the entire family.
