President Donald Trump hosted the Rose Garden Club dinner on Monday, May 11, at the White House.

During the event, Trump polled attendees regarding potential 2028 presidential candidates -- Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

This caught the attention of the public and sparked a debate regarding the same.

Trump asked the crowd for their preferences between the two politicians. “Who likes JD Vance?” and “Who likes Marco Rubio?” the president asked, pausing after each question to listen to the cheers.

Following the audience response, Trump suggested a joint candidacy, stating, “This sounds like a perfect ticket.”

Netizens Give Their Verdict

Social media users also discussed the president’s remarks and the qualifications of both potential candidates.

Some felt that Vance would be the perfect candidate to succeed Trump as the president.

One user wrote, “Vance for the win, he and Marco would work well together.” An individual commented, “JD is a smart man, good for America, Rubio is a liar.”

An individual chimed in, “Rubio for President. He has the most experience for anyone in the government.”

On the other hand, there were some who sided with Rubio.

One user wrote, “He must have been talking to a bunch of MAGA people because I can tell you, right now, the majority of the people would back Marco Rubio. JD Vance is a good guy but he does not have the seasoning to be the President of the United States. Marco Rubio has it all. But how many times have we been in situations where the best options and the people never get the correct positions.”

Another user stated, “Marco makes sense now. America needs Marco now.”

“Absolutely, Marco Rubio for the nomination in the 2028 Presidential election. He has more political experience than JD and other members of the Trump cabinet,” opined one user.

'Same Agenda, Different Faces'

However, there were some social media users who felt neither Vance nor Rubio were an ideal choice to be the 2028 presidential candidate.

"Choosing between Vance and Rubio is like choosing which way you want the economy to crash. Same agenda, different faces. 2028 is just another year for them to play with our future. No, thanks,” wrote one user.

An individual noted, “They are both toast after being a part of this failure of a Presidency. Farm bankruptcies up over 40%, Manufacturing employment below what it was at the end of Biden’s term, war mongering with no end in sight.”

Another user stated, “Donald Trump really turned the White House into live session finale audition. ‘Who likes JD Vance? Who likes Marco Rubio?’ Sounds less like a political strategy meeting and more like a crowd vote before someone gets the final rose.”

However, Rubio had revealed in a Vanity Fair interaction last year that he would not run for the president if he has to compete against Vance because of them sharing a close bond.

The Secretary of State said, “If JD Vance runs for president, he’s going to be our nominee, and I’ll be one of the first people to support him.”
