Vice President JD Vance was the featured speaker at the This is the Turning Point Tour on Tuesday, April 14 at the Akins Ford Arena in Athens, Georgia. The VP was welcomed with thousands of empty seats at the event, which was reportedly free to attend. The under-attended event has become the talk of the town ever since the pictures and videos of the empty hall went viral on the internet.

As per the videos and pictures surfaced on the internet, despite massive promotion the arena appeared sparsely attended by the time Vance came on stage.
Turning Point USA seems to have misestimated crowd size for Vance
In fact, a clip of the arena was also posted by MS Now journalist, Jake Traylor on his X account. The caption alongside the post reads, “Turning Point USA seems to have misestimated crowd size for Vance. Akins Ford Arena less than 25% filled for the vice president.” Going by Traylor’s caption, one can assume roughly 2000 people actually turned up for the event.
In the clip which has now gone viral on the internet, one can see that the entire second half of the venue is vacant, on both the floor and in the stands, with the camera crew standing at the front.

As one can expect, the viral moments also had the internet talking and weighing in over people’s disinterest. A user said, “That's what happens when you put a foreign nation before America. You lose your support from Americans. Seems like that's a no-brainer to me.”

Internet users react to empty arena.
One more double down expressing, “It’s no surprise since his numbers have dwindled since the Iran War started. He didn’t stand up for Christians, which is 80% of the MAGA base. No surprising at all.”
While the low attendance wasn’t enough humiliation for Vance, he got another blow when his speech was interrupted mid-way. According to The Financial Express, someone from the crowd shouted: “Jesus Christ does not support genocide!” The room went quiet for some time and later another voice was heard, “You’re killing children! You’re bombing children!”
JD Vance faces intense heckling at a TPUSA event.
It remains unclear whether the remarks were aimed at ongoing Iran conflict or war in Gaza. Nevertheless, Vance didn’t reject the sentiment while responding to the heckler but defended the Trump administration’s approach to Gaza.
