President Donald Trump’s second presidential term has drawn intense scrutiny, as he has been losing support from younger demographics while tracking low in public approval polls.

The recent leadership trends have made actor Alan Cumming ponder upon what it means to live under the tenure of Trump.

The actor did not mince his words as he criticized the Trump administration, raising questions about the Republican Party’s objectives and foundational slogans.

He criticized the current and past leaders for failing in their duties, noting that he and fellow Americans expected more empathy within the country's cultural landscape.

Alan Cumming criticizes the Donald Trump administration.

Cumming recently spoke with Radio Times about his life in New York.

During the interview, he was asked how the rest of the United States felt different compared to a Democratic-led New York City.

“The government... It is a fascist country and I’m paying taxes to it. It’s horrible,” the Scottish actor answered.

On the contrary, Cumming said that the Big Apple continued to be a “different kettle of fish to the rest of America” because the city's progressive political factions, which included Mayor Zohran Mamdani, remain more liberal leaning.

The X2 and Spy Kids actor also criticized the president's "Make America Great Again" slogan, which he argued seemed to represent a regression back to the 1950s.

Cumming mocked the political messaging, saying that it reminded him of an era where marginalized communities were forced to serve the people of fair ethnicity.

The actor noted that during that time, one would do as they pleased, and if they did not like someone, they would hire “the boys to duff them up.”

“That’s what they want. That’s what they’re creating,” he emphasized.

He said that he believed the current political tension and inflation in the economy had exposed something that had long been buried.

“It’s not a new thing for people to be so bigoted and intolerant — it always has been like that,” he explained, adding that these feelings were merely “suppressed."

He expressed dismay at how public and blatant it is now, to the point that the masses are absolutely “comfortable” and people are even “agreeing” with it.

Despite calling New York City his second home, the 61-year-old spends more time in Scotland as the artistic director of the Pitlochry Festival Theatre.

'It’s Always Just Teetering on the Brink of Awfulness'

In the same interview, the actor put former President Barack Obama into his crosshairs, claiming that he was charmed by a false sense of security during his tenure.

“I love Obama, but I do feel he didn’t do us a favor by not letting on about the level of racism and fury he was subjected to,” Cumming said.

He added that the Obama administration made everyone believe that the United States was in a better state than it actually was, “because it’s always just teetering on the brink of awfulness.”

He then shifted his attention back to Trump, criticizing him for a perceived failure to “demand decency” or show proper protocol toward international leaders, including King Charles III, during past diplomatic engagements.

“I never thought I would say this but, poor Charles. How low do you go?” Cumming noted.
