Donald Trump is preparing for a Cabinet shakeup ahead of the midterm elections, a recent report has suggested.
'He's in a Bad Mood': Trump Reportedly Planning to Fire 3 Top Republicans From Cabinet
A major shakeup might be on the cards for the Trump administration yet again, as President Donald Trump is reportedly considering the termination of three top Republican officials.
This comes nearly a month after the firing of notable names like former Department of Homeland Security (DHS)Secretary Kristi Noem and former Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Although the names who might face the axe remain unconfirmed, Senate Republicans are predicting that Trump may remove FBI Director Kash Patel, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard from his cabinet, according to reports.
'He's Letting a Lot of Them Go'
According to Politico, some Republican lawmakers have said that they believe a broader Cabinet reshuffling might be on the cards.
Sen. Thom Tillis belongs to a group of senators who believe Trump should "make any further changes to his inner circle sooner rather than later to give the Senate maximum flexibility in confirming replacements."
Notably, Trump recently criticized Republican lawmakers and Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson in a post on Truth Social.
Acting U.S. Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao releases first statement since assuming the position.
Four Republican lawmakers, who chose anonymity, said that a reshuffle would make sense ahead of the midterm elections, which is scheduled to be held in November 2026.
They also said that the three names who they think could be removed from the Trump administration next are Gabbard, Patel and Lutnick.
However, the lawmakers added that Gabbard may retain her position despite challenges related to the Iran conflict, citing "powerful allies within the White House and outside of the administration."
Patel is reportedly the latest name to be added to this list. The lawmakers described the FBI director as being "on the rocks," citing allegations about his conduct and an alcohol abuse problem he has publicly denied.
One insider said of Trump, "He's in a bad mood, so he's letting a lot of them go. He's preparing to really let a lot of them go."
Tillis said that the personnel changes should happen before June or July 2026 to give the Senate adequate time to confirm replacements.
White House Spokesperson Defends Donald Trump's Choices
The Politico report mentions that White House spokesperson Davis Ingle defended Trump's current Cabinet members, saying they are working to advance the administration's agenda.
"They will continue fulfilling the many promises President Trump was elected to enact. The White House is appreciative of their service to this country," Ingle said.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune said that the confirmation process for any new officials would take time given the Senate's current workload.
The White House, however, has indicated it has no set timeline for a staffing change.
