Page Six reports that Savannah’s co-host, Craig Melvin, announced 90 minutes into the broadcast that she was “done for the day.” Melvin told the viewers, “Savannah had to leave a little early. She’ll be right back tomorrow, though.”

No further explanation was provided for the host’s abrupt exit from the Today show, nor did she address it on her social media handles. However, an insider close to the incident might have revealed the reason behind her exit.

The source told the publication that Savannah left “for some sort of appointment, and her exit had nothing to do with her mom.” This comes amid the former legal analyst’s mother being missing for three months now, since January 31, 2026.

The police authorities believe that the 84-year-old was kidnapped from her Tucson home, Arizona, and an unidentified masked man was also captured in the CCTV footage outside of her residence.

Savannah was seen making repeated pleas on social media along with her siblings, Annie and Camron, for any information regarding their mother. The broadcaster, though inconsolable with grief, is holding onto the belief and courage that her mother will make it home soon.

A spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff's Department, who has been leading the investigation for Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, told Fox News, “Anyone with information related to the Nancy Guthrie case is encouraged to come forward. Please contact 88-CRIME or the FBI tip line at 1-800-225-5324." The request came days after a private laboratory in Florida sent the DNA samples from the crime scene to the FBI, and after a retired agent said that he believes that the blood pattern on her front porch might indicate a single kidnapper.

Savannah Guthrie on Why She Returned to Work

Savannah Guthrie reveals why she chose to return to work amid her mother's disappearance.

Savannah Guthrie returned to work on April 6, 2026, and made an appearance on the Today show. The former White House correspondent was heard saying at the beginning of the show, “It is good to be home. Ready or not, let’s do the news.”

Insiders close to the broadcaster revealed to Page Six that her colleagues were told explicitly not to mention her mother’s disappearance upon her return. They were also told not to give her a formal welcome.

One insider said, “It was supposed to be business as usual. [Producers] said to act totally normal. 'Move forward' is the vibe. It’s been a hard year and a draining time.”

However, in an interaction with her Today co-anchor Hoda Kotb, Savannah addressed her returning to work while still battling emotional turmoil with her mother’s disappearance.

The former The Daily Rundown host said, “It’s hard to imagine [coming back] because it’s such a place of joy and lightness. I can’t come back and try to be something I’m not, but I can’t not come back because it’s my family. I think part of my purpose now. I want to smile, and when I do, it will be real. And my joy will be my protest. My joy will be my answer, and being there is joyful, and when it’s not, I’ll say so.”
