'Get Rid of Any Trace': Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Links to Frogmore Cottage Set to Be Removed
Three years ago, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were asked to vacate Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, a property originally given to them as a wedding present by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Following their decision to step down from senior royal duties and relocate to California, the Crown is moving forward with plans to renovate the residence, effectively severing the couple's last physical ties to the estate.
While the Duke of Sussex reportedly hopes to return to the U.K. for future engagements and continue working on his relationship with his father, King Charles III, any physical footprint of Harry and Markle at their former Windsor home is set to be removed as the structure is reconfigured.
Renovation Work at Frogmore Cottage to Alter the Property's Layout
The Frogmore Cottage in Windsor will reportedly be renovated.
According to a report by The Sun, Frogmore Cottage will undergo extensive renovation work that will significantly transform the property.
This structural overhaul means that the specific interior design and layouts customized by the Sussexes during their time there will be largely overwritten.
The project is expected to divide the property back into smaller units.
Before the residence was gifted to the couple in 2018, it consisted of two semi-detached houses which were later renovated into one larger cottage.
The comes amid continued adjustments within royal residences, including reports that Charles decided to remove Harry and Markle's wedding picture from his Highgrove residence.
Though Prince Harry continues to travel to the United Kingdom for personal and charitable initiatives, he no longer retains a permanent, official base in the country.
The Sun report noted that Prince Andrew was previously offered the property as a potential residence option. A source told the media outlet, “It's [Frogmore Cottage] been empty for three years. Even Andrew thought it wasn't the right fit for him to move in."
The insider added, “Maybe if they get rid of any trace of Harry and Meghan, then someone within the royal household will fancy it.”
'Palace Officials Feel Harry and Meghan Are Toxic'
According to Sky News, TalkTV host Mark Dolan discussed reports surrounding the guest list for Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling’s wedding.
Dolan referred to Harry and Markle's reported absence from the invitations as a “royal snub” as it is the “royal wedding of the year.”
According to Dolan, the exclusion of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from the celebration appears to be an intentional choice aimed at keeping the focus strictly on the bride and groom.
“Peter Phillips, the guy that’s getting married, doesn’t want Harry to take the headlines,” Dolan stated, adding, “Palace officials feel Harry and Meghan are toxic and they would ruin the special day.”
