President Donald Trump’s newfound friendship with director Brett Ratner has raised eyebrows after the latter was spotted traveling alongside the president during his recent high-profile state visit to China.

This has prompted author and Trump biographer Michael Wolff to share his thoughts regarding the president's shifting entourage.

Wolff questioned whether Trump befriended the director due to both of their alleged ties with Jeffrey Epstein or simply because of Ratner's Hollywood background.

The author revealed that what left him agape was a striking comment Trump made to Ratner at the conclusion of their three-day trip to Beijing.

An X post about Brett Ratner traveling to China alongside Donald Trump.

Speaking on the most recent episode of The Daily Beast’s Inside Trump’s Head podcast, Wolff announced that he has identified the president's new closest confidant.

He stated that the Rush Hour director has developed a budding friendship with the president, holding frequent conversations for two months prior to the China visit.

Wolff, however, expressed doubt regarding the exact characteristics that brought the two men close to each other.

“The friendship with Brett Ratner exactly goes to the character of it all, or the Epstein of it all, or the Trump of it all, or the grab them by the p**** of it all,” Wolff said.

However, the biographer noted that he quickly realized what brought the two closer.

He explained that Trump remains, at his core, a “Hollywood guy.” Wolff rhetorically asked what Tinseltown fundamentally stands for, answering, “It stands for fame. It stands for celebrity. It stands for -- wait for it -- girls.”

Wolff continued, “Why was Brett Ratner in China? Other than to be there as Donald Trump's BFF and security blanket when the trip ended?”

The biographer claimed that he was taken aback after learning about Trump’s parting comment to the Red Dragon director. Wolff said that when their China trip concluded, Trump allegedly told Ratner, “I’ve got to be able to get in touch with you at all times.”

The director’s reputation previously took a severe hit when records revealed he had attended Epstein's private parties.

According to reports from the BBC, a photograph of Ratner alongside Epstein and two unidentified women was released to the public.

While the files did not state that the X-Men: The Last Stand director was personally involved in criminal wrongdoing, a series of images featured him alongside the convicted s*x offender and modeling executive Jean-Luc Brunel, smiling and relaxing in the company of various women.

Brett Ratner's Controversial Past

Wolff reminded viewers that Ratner was a vocal defender of the Trump administration during the latter's first term in the Oval Office, flatly calling him “one of the sleaziest guys in Hollywood.”

The author affirmed that Ratner would not mind his negative description within the film industry.

Hugh Dougherty, The Daily Beast’s executive editor, added that when the #MeToo movement commenced in 2017, several women in Hollywood came forward accusing the director of s*xual misconduct.

While many notable industry figures faced immediate professional fallout, Ratner denied the accusations and subsequently “left for Israel in the course of it because it appeared that his career was toast.”

Wolff acknowledged that Ratner's career was indeed "toast," noting he had effectively been out of business in Hollywood for the past decade.

The author said, “He comes out of media purgatory because of one thing: because he was selected by Melania Trump to be the director of her film, Melania.”

Wolff explained that Ratner was primarily renowned for his Rush Hour film series, calling it as a collection of "generic action films."

Interestingly, the author mentioned that the first lady had chosen Ratner to direct her high-profile documentary project without Trump's input, concluding that the entire scenario is "appalling in all respects."
