As internet detectives are keen to identify where things went awry, the questionable choices of Meghan have turned into a widely discussed topic.
Whether it was Harry and Meghan's controversial chat with Oprah that ignited their conflict with the royal family, according to numerous reports, or the couple's choices, uncomfortable public outings, and negative responses, their image has consistently been a subject of discussion.
Three moments stand out among the controversies that have followed Harry and Meghan in recent years.
Many fans still cringe at the video of the couple dancing in a hospital room.
1- The 'cringe' hospital twerking video
Markle was dubbed the "Duchess of Privacy" after she posted a dance video from the hospital while pregnant with Princess Lilibet. According to Express UK, a royal commentator criticized Meghan for sharing the personal video before Princess Lilibet's birth.
In June 2025, the Duchess of Sussex sparked a media frenzy by posting a unique family video on her official Instagram, in which she and Prince Harry danced to Starrkeisha's viral The Baby Momma Dance. In the video, Meghan was seen holding her baby bump and dancing in the hospital room.
The video was labelled 'cringe' by many users online. Sarah Vine of the Daily Mail strongly criticized the Duchess, stating that it's difficult to understand what Meghan "hopes to accomplish" by sharing such a personal video of herself and her husband.
She said, "The Duchess of Privacy herself, twerking like some vulgar commoner to Starrkeisha's viral hit The Baby Momma Dance, while Prince Harry dad-dances around her like an over-excited flamingo doing an elaborate courtship dance? It can't be real - can it?"
2- Embarrassing moment at Kevin Costner's event
In September 2023, Markle and Harry attended Kevin Costner’s glamorous charity fundraiser event. A clip from the private event was shared on social media, which featured Meghan in an uncomfortable situation onstage with one of the event coordinators, as per The New Zealand Herald.
In the video, a woman with a microphone is seen approaching Meghan and Harry, at which point the former Suits actress grabs the microphone from her. Following a quick tussle, the woman regains hold of the microphone and keeps walking, while Meghan moves away with Harry following her.
Meghan was caught in an awkward struggle for a microphone at a Kevin Costner event.
The social media account HarrysGreySuit shared a video of the incident on X, which has now garnered thousands of reactions. One user wrote, “That’s so embarrassing to see". Another said, “It’s the fact she assumed, despite presumably knowing there was no plan for her to speak."
3- When Harry asked Disney CEO for a job for Meghan
During the London premiere of The Lion King in July 2019, Harry was caught on video pitching Meghan's voiceover abilities to Disney CEO Bob Iger. In the viral video from the event, Prince Harry can be seen talking to Bob Iger, saying, “You know she does voiceovers". Surprised, Iger then says, "Oh, really?”
Harry then said, "Did you know that? You seem surprised," pointing at Meghan, who was speaking with Beyoncé and Jay-Z, and adding, "She's quite interested."
Amid the slew of controversies over the years, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry invited criticism after they announced their Australia trip. The trip drew significant backlash, with a petition opposing it gathering more than 38,000 signatures.
