Bill Pulte, an official of the Donald Trump administration, has issued two new criminal referrals against New York Attorney General Letitia James. The allegations differ from the insurance fraud case dismissed in 2025.

The referrals come after the Department of Justice (DOJ) failed to prove James guilty of her alleged crimes for a third time. The housing official now claims in his referrals that James committed insurance fraud by falsifying information.

'James Made False Representations'

According to a report by MS Now, Pulte sent the two referrals claiming that James made a misinterpretation in home insurance filings with two companies: Universal Property Insurance and Allstate Insurance Company.

The firms are in Florida and Illinois, respectively. The report further mentioned that Pulte had referred to social media posts by Mike Davis, a pro-Trump attorney. Pulte wrote in the Illinois referral that James made a representation that the house would be occupied by a single adult with no children.

But as per the post, she knew the house was occupied by four people: three children and her niece. Meanwhile, in the Florida referral, Pulte wrote, “Ms. James made false representations that her property would be unoccupied five months out of the year.” Pulte mentioned that Davis had called that assertion “false.”

“The house was, in fact, occupied year-round by her niece,” the Trump ally added. Following the referrals, the president made a post on his Truth Social account, writing, “NY AG Letitia James referred again for criminal prosecution for alleged homeowner insurance fraud,” and shared a link to a report covering the topic.

Both attorneys alleged that it was a “suspected homeowners' insurance fraud,” as per KCBY 11. A referral suspect of the Illinois-based company believed the New York attorney general had “defrauded” them by submitting a homeowners insurance application for Norfolk.

Trump Administration Accused of Abusing Its Power

CBS News reported that Abbe Lowell, James’ attorney, accused the Trump administration of abusing its power. The lawyer stated that the president had a personal vendetta against her, and that he keeps coming after her with baseless allegations.

Furthermore, Lowell dismissed the two referrals as mere “desperate tactics” that would fail. She subtly referred to the previous fraud case that was ultimately dismissed. Lowell also claimed that the tactics exposed the Trump administration’s mentality. The lawyer added that the current government “has abandoned its responsibility to the American people in favor of petty political payback.”
