According to critics, the peace talks for the Iran conflict are not going the way the United States had anticipated, as efforts to open the Strait of Hormuz remain unsuccessful.

With the negotiations allegedly not bearing results, President Donald Trump appeared to lose his patience and spoke about taking a rather harsher stance.

At a recent Cabinet meeting, the president was asked about a deal that would potentially reopen the Strait of Hormuz to international traffic.

Following his response, he issued a direct threat to Oman, insinuating that if the nation doesn't behave nicely, severe repercussions would follow.

Donald Trump speaks about Oman during a recent Cabinet meeting.

During the Cabinet meeting, a reporter pointed out that Iran wanted complete control of the Strait of Hormuz.

She asked Trump if he would accept a “short-term deal” giving either Iran or Oman complete control of the strait. He flatly replied, “No.”

He insisted that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open to everybody, rhetorically asking, “Who would control it?”

Trump did not wait for the reporter’s answer and stated: “It's international waters. Nobody's going to control it. We're going to watch over it. We'll watch over it, but nobody's going to control it. That's part of the negotiation that we have.”

The president said, “Oman will behave just like everybody else.”

He added that if Oman doesn't comply, “we’ll have to blow them up.”

However, he assured that if Oman understood the situation, they would be fine.

The comments came as a shock to many because Oman and the U.S. have been long-term allies for over 50 years, and the Gulf nation has historically played a crucial role in helping with peace negotiations with Iran, according to the Time magazine.

According to a report by Reuters, Esmail Baghaei, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, stated that Tehran would back Gulf nations against the U.S. administration's threats.

The statement came in the wake of continued American efforts to reopen the strait.

Perhaps the president's comments stemmed from Baghaei’s rhetoric, warning their ally not to jump ship as international parties negotiate to reopen the waterway.

Previously, Trump made a lengthy post on his Truth Social account, sharing that he had a call with several world leaders regarding peace talks.

“An Agreement has been largely negotiated, subject to finalization between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other Countries, as listed,” Trump wrote.

However, the final aspects and details of the deal are still being discussed and will be announced shortly.

Internet Lashes out at Donald Trump

Trump’s comment about military action against Oman frustrated many social media users.

One user wrote, “Is this a president of a country or the leader of a gang and mafia? Oman has always officially stated that it is against closing the Strait of Hormuz and that it fully abides by all international agreements.”

Another user commented, “We are so far into 'mad king' territory that the White House may not even bother to clarify whether Trump just confused Oman with Iran or is indeed threatening to bomb Oman.”

“Trump does not understand the role Oman plays in regional politics and the State Department has failed to educate him on this. It’s called neutrality,” an individual stated.

One user noted, “Today’s ally, tomorrow’s target.”

Another wrote, “Yeah, why the h-ll not? On to the next. Cuba? Greenland? Europe?”
