Vice President JD Vance's recent comments during a White House briefing gave everyone a glimpse of his humorous side.

Vance, in a routine briefing, joked that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt could temporarily serve as the Vice President.

He went on to say that Leavitt should take on his job when his wife, who is expecting her fourth child, gives birth.

Leavitt is currently on maternity leave after welcoming her second child.

'She Would Be Vice President for a Couple of Weeks'

Vance is currently stepping behind the podium to fill in for Leavitt. The substitution is part of a temporary, rotating strategy implemented by the Trump administration to cover briefing duties during the press secretary's absence.

During the press briefing, Vance said, “It’s cool to be here. I’m going to give a shoutout of course to the person I am replacing today, Karoline Leavitt, who hopefully is at home enjoying some time with her beautiful kids."

He further added, “I told Karoline I would stand in for her today for the White House press briefing on the condition that when Usha has our baby in July that she would be vice president for a couple of weeks."

The video was shared on X by Fox News with a caption, "Vice President Leavitt? JD Vance jokes about the deal he made with Karoline Leavitt for filling in behind the podium in the the White House briefing room."

Social Media Users React to JD Vance's Joke

While Vance left the whole room of reporters laughing, users on social media, too, were impressed by his comment.

Political commentator Eric Doherty shared a clip of the exchange on his X handle and wrote, "Fair deal," with a laughing emoji.

One user appreciated the jovial atmosphere at the briefing, writing, "Funny exchange at the briefing. You don’t usually hear that kind of joke in that setting." Another wrote, referring to Vance, "Love his sense of humor".

Praising the vice president's sense of humor, one user wrote, "JD Vance dropping wholesome humor. The deal with Karoline Leavitt is perfect — he covers the briefing today, and she steps in as Vice President for a couple weeks when Usha has the baby in July. Family values and strong teamwork in the White House. This is what normal, decent leadership looks like. Love the Vance family energy."

However, some social media users weren't too impressed by Vance's comment.

One wrote, "Vance has to be the most unlikeable person in this country. So sure. Add a chronic liar to the ticket."

Another added, "This dude has negative charisma."

Leavitt welcomed her second child, a daughter, on May 1.

Sharing the news on her Instagram handle, she wrote, "On May 1st, Viviana aka “Vivi” joined our family, and our hearts instantly exploded with love. She is perfect and healthy, and her big brother is joyfully adjusting to life with his new baby sister. We are enjoying every moment in our blissful newborn bubble."
