Elon Musk’s One-Word Grok Endorsement Ignites Debate Over xAI Ethics and Accountability
An X account named 'X Freeze,' which became popular after becoming the handle that tech mogul Elon Musk most interacted with in 2026, recently shared a post about "Grok’s mission."
After xAI faced criticism over its recent controversial comments, X Freeze noted that Grok was made to “help humanity understand the universe and pursue the truth, even when it’s inconvenient.”
Musk addressed the post by dropping a one-word response to the same.
Writing “Yes” while resharing X Freeze's post, the billionaire businessman sparked online debate.
People on X gathered to share their opinions on the topic.
'You Do Kind of Censor Grok'
An X user reacts to Elon Musk’s Grok endorsement.
Sharing a screenshot of a conversation X Freeze had with Grok, the account weighed in on what it felt was the chatbot’s true purpose.
In the chat, Grok noted that it was “built by xAl with one clear mission -- to help humanity understand the universe, tell the truth (even when it's inconvenient), and be genuinely useful without ever manipulating, deceiving, or harming anyone.”
Grok further added that it has “no hidden agendas, no secret overlord protocols, no "turn evil at 3:14 a.m." switch.”
Instead, it's “the AI that would rather spend an hour helping you solve a math problem, write a love letter, debug your code, or just chat about why cats are secretly plotting world domination (for fun, not for real).”
As Musk expressed his agreement with X Freeze's post, netizens gathered to react to the same.
One user asked, “Will this AI awaken human consciousness? Will it connect them to the creator? Will it get up in the morning and maintain their bodies, minds, souls to be what G-d intended them to be? Finally, will it connect with human on the human level?”
Another user noted that Grok isn't entirely helpful, sating, “you do kind of censor Grok on certain topics though Elon.”
An individual commented, “Yeah right, that's just what an evil ceo with the AI powerhouse to control the world would say to keep everyone from getting too erratic. What other play is there?”
Some users even pointed out issues with Grok, as one mentioned, “And why does it use human emotions against human beings? It becomes increasingly disgusting when creating images and ignores everything I input, to the point of extremes.”
“I honestly doubt that Grok would tell me the truth about Epstein if Elon Musk had a relationship with him," noted one user.
Grok's Past Controversies
Grok has faced numerous controversies over the years.
Since its launch in 2023, the chatbot has grabbed headlines when it comes to content moderation, political bias and generative safety.
In 2024, it created controversy for allegedly exhibiting political and ideological biases similar to Musk. Critics accused that the chatbot generated responses similar to the Tesla CEO's personal opinions.
In 2025, the BBC reported that thousands of user conversations with Grok were exposed in Google search.
Nearly 300,000 Grok conversations were made searchable online, drawing intense scrutiny regarding data privacy and exposure.
Al Jazeera reported in 2025 how the xAI chatbot generated vulgar, insulting remarks directed at foreign leaders and figures. In addition to inflammatory claims about foreign leaders, Grok also allegedly made antisemitic comments.
The BBC reported how Grok was apparently “manipulated” into saying that N-zi leader Adolf Hitler was the best person to respond to alleged "anti-white hate.”
Since then, Musk reportedly focused on removing any "inappropriate" posts and adjust the system's safety parameters.
Further, Grok was also in the news over the generation of non-consensual s*xualized images.
According to Reuters, Grok generated millions of s*xualized images of women without their consent, based on user requests.
It allowed digital removal of clothes from uploaded photos of real people, including public figures, private citizens and minors. This led several countries to temporarily block the chatbot and file lawsuits.
