Donald Trump did not expect that Iran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz could become a major obstacle in the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict. This shattered his initial belief that the war might be over and turn in his favor in a matter of a few days or even hours.

According to The Daily Beast, the president was reportedly warned by his Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, and other advisers that Tehran would respond by taking control of the Strait of Hormuz if they faced any attack by the U.S.

Not only this, but Trump was also told that America’s Middle East allies would be under heavy scrutiny. The intelligence sources familiar with the war planning revealed that the POTUS ignored all of their concerns.

Donald Trump's war planning turned out to be a chaotic affair.

Reportedly, Trump believed that the Iranians who opposed him would “take to the streets” and overcome government forces once the bombing started. However, things did not go quite as planned for the President.

Not only this, but the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) also launched a covert mission to provide arms to one of the biggest groups of Iranian dissidents in the weeks before Operation Epic Fury was launched. But the POTUS later revealed that the guns never reached their destination.

An anonymous official revealed to the publication, “He (Trump) was absolutely certain there would be an uprising. He’d seen footage of people out in the streets and how it spread across the country before the security forces cracked down.”

The official added that the President thought that the conflict would be quick and easy, with it being over quickly and almost like the Venezuela conflict. He said, “There is no question the president knew the repercussions. He just thought it would all be over very quickly and that these other factors would not come into play. He thought it would be a little like Venezuela—they’d take out the leadership and that would be it."

Donald Trump had announced the bombings in Iran on his Truth Social post that said, “When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take. America is backing you with overwhelming strength. Now is the time to seize control of your destiny and unleash the prosperous and glorious future that is close within your reach. This is the moment for action. Do not let it pass.”

Donald Trump issued a threat to Iran over the Strait of Hormuz

However, despite the assassination of Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei, the outcome of the war was not as swift as Trump thought it would be. Reportedly, this miscalculation by the president was the reason why the U.S. had zero advance planning to stop the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz or to predict the rising gas prices.

Donald Trump admitted that the run-and-gun operation did not go as planned. Speaking to reporters at the White House Easter Egg Roll, he said, “You know we sent some guns. But the group that was supposed to give, which I said would happen to my people, I said it, I called it exactly. We sent guns, a lot of guns.”

He added, “They were supposed to go to the people, so they could fight back against these thugs. Know what happened? The people that they sent them to kept them. Because they said, ‘What a beautiful gun. I think I’ll keep it.’ So I’m very upset with a certain group of people, and they’re going to pay a high price for that.”
