'Called Our President Fattyshack': Jimmy Kimmel Mocks Trump at 2026 Peabody Awards

The Peabody Awards celebrated their winners on Sunday, May 31, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles, following their announcement in the spring.

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel was named one of the winners after a unanimous vote by the panel.

However, his acceptance speech included a satirical reference to President Donald Trump, whom he has mocked on several occasions in recent years.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kimmel was presented his award by Ben Affleck, who poked fun at the late-night host’s onscreen rift with Matt Damon.

“For years, he’s used his show to challenge authority on a nightly basis, and by authority, I think we all know who that really means, one particularly credit-hogging narcissist named Matt Damon,” Affleck joked.

The Accountant star added, “When they pulled his show off the air, Jimmy refused to back down. What he said to me was it wasn’t for his own benefit, but because he knows justice dies in the dark -- I taught him that as Batman.”

Stressing the importance of comedy and satire, Affleck stated, “Comedy and satire are vital parts of democratic speech, whether the government likes them or not.”

Taking the stage to accept the award, Kimmel wasted no time targeting his longtime rival, Trump.

Initially mocking himself, the Jimmy Kimmel Live! star said, “I’ve felt pretty dumb a lot of times in my life, but I’ve never felt dumber than I do right now.”

This was in reference to him standing amid notable reporters and documentary filmmakers who have explored serious and gritty topics like wars, abuse, and the controversial Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protests under the administration.

Mocking Trump, Kimmel quipped, “I called our president Fattyshack,” before adding several other nicknames that he had used to describe the president in the past.

The comedian added, “And somehow we got a Peabody out of that. This country really has gone to s***.”

The 58-year-old host continued, “Making jokes about the president in America shouldn’t win you a prize. We have the right, guaranteed by the Constitution, to criticize and satirize our leaders.”

The host also expressed gratitude to those who had voiced out and supported him when his show was temporarily suspended due to a controversial joke about right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk’s fatal shooting.

“You sent a message that we do care, and we stand up, and we will not stand by when comedy and journalism and dissent are censored and regulated and criminalized," Kimmel shared.

Further thanking his team and his fellow award winners, he added some sarcastic gratitude for Trump, whom he pelted with even more nicknames.

Apart from the late-night show host, the other big winners at the Peabody Awards included Heated Rivalry, The Pitt, Adolescence, and Disney's Andor.
