An unnamed source told RadarOnline that Cruise and Kidman are now communicating with each other after a long period of estrangement.
The source stated that the actors were devastated following the murders of their longtime friends Rob and Michele.
The Reiners were allegedly stabbed to death by by their son Nick Reiner in December 2025.
The friendship between the Reiners and Cruise and Kidman goes back a long way, as both couples started dating around the same time in 1989.
Soon after, Cruise and Kidman costarred in the 1990 hit, Days of Thunder.
“Tom met Nicole around the same time Rob and Michele became a couple, and their relationships followed a similar arc,” the source said.
Cruise and Kidman emotionally struggled to cope with the news of their friends’ murders, the insider added.
“They have been reminiscing about how close they were to them when they were a young couple,” the source noted, referring to both couples going on double dates back in the day.
The insider said that the murders of the Reiners rattled Cruise and Kidman, and was the real catalyst for their reunion.
They called it a “gut check” for the Jack Reacher actor, which made Cruise realize that he and Kidman have a lot things in common.
"They're supporting each other through all this. Finally they're at a place where they are ready to break bread together,” the source added.
'They've Both Been Able to Let It Go'
Furthermore, the insider told RadarOnline, “It's a huge step because she [Kidman] and Tom didn't even speak for so long, but enough time has passed that they've both been able to let it go.”
In recent times, the two reportedly have had “positive conversations.”
Kidman's recent separation from Keith Urban has also fueled speculations that the 58-year-old might reunite with Cruise.
Cruise and Kidman are reportedly in constant contact, and the latter is now spending more time with their children, Isabella Jane Cruise and Connor Cruise, who lived with their father after their parent's divorce.
The insider suggested that a meeting could happen in the upcoming weeks, saying, “Nicole knows her kids are really looking forward to having their parents in the same room again, so she's determined to follow through.”
