Speaking at an event at the White House held ahead of Mother’s Day to honor military mothers and their families for their service and sacrifice, First Lady Melania Trump spoke about her husband, President Donald Trump.

However, as she praised the president's “care and empathy,” she received an unexpected reaction from the audience.

While delivering a prepared speech from the podium, Melania appeared to crack up while speaking about her husband’s qualities.

This drew attention from the audience, which sparked a wave of laughter during the ceremony.

Standing behind the presidential seal during a White House Mother’s Day event for military mothers on Wednesday, May 6, Melania praised Trump while introducing him on stage.

Speaking to the crowd, she called her husband “strong Commander-in-Chief”.

“Most know my husband as the strong Commander-in-Chief, but his empathy transcends the role and shape a caring leader,” the first lady said.

As soon as she said the word “empathy,” Trump smiled and gave a small shrug, prompting laughter from people in the audience.

This led Melania to join in the laughter as well, who continued with the rest of her speech with a smile.

She went on to say that the president “constantly remembers each and every American soldier as his own child.” After Melania finished introducing him, the two shared kisses.

Later, officials from the Trump administration called the event a “tremendous success.”
