If you're in the Boise, Idaho, area, you might have spotted the "dozens of cows" that were roaming the streets late at night earlier this week — which certainly made for an interesting sight.

These cows stampeded downtown, but luckily, it wasn't long before the Boise Police Department, helped by the cows' owner, was able to bring the bovines back to their pastures.

If social media comments are anything to go by, people were delighted by this strange incident.

About 100 escaped cows were found roaming the streets of downtown Boise, Idaho.

"Dozens of cows (maybe 100) mooooved into Boise just after 1am last night coming quickly through the intersection at Bogus Basin and Cartwright Road and on their way downtown," Boise police wrote on social media alongside a photo of the cows in question looking like a bunch of deer in the headlights. "Cows were spotted all over, including at 18th and Sherman, 18th and Eastman, 15th and Harrison and on Dewey. Officers and dispatch worked quickly to track down the owner and corral all the cows. Eventually, many of the cows ended up in an alley between 18th and 19th near Hill Road. The owner of the cows also came to the rescue with a trailer and hauled them back home by around 5am."

Boise may be a city, but it's surrounded by farmland — from which some adventurous animals often escape.

One person in the comments section thought everyone was just overreacting a little bit, writing, "Guys, they were just going downtown for their morning coffee and gossip."

"Working till the cows came home," quipped a second person.

"It’s udderly amazing….. from the photo posted they looked to be the cream of the crop. They probably herd there was a good time to be had a the local watering hole….ya know at the barrr……..n!" joked a third.

Clearly, the good people of Idaho have a sense of humor.

Boise police had to deal with another escaped cow incident earlier this year.

Funnily enough (or not, depending on how familiar you are with the area), this kind of four-legged rescue mission isn't an uncommon assignment for Boise-based officers.

Back in May, the very same department posted a video of some officers shepherding a dozen Black Angus cows home.

"Oh you know, just Idaho things!" they joked at the time, making it clear that this kind of thing isn't exactly unheard of around those parts.

Boise police has also had to deal with escaped goats downtown.

And it's not just cows causing chaos in the Northwestern state: In August, officers were called out to corral a bunch of escaped goats from the streets into a local Crunch Fitness parking lot.
